New Skywire® Cat-1-embedded modem for AT&T’s 4G LTE network can be rolled out today and firmware-upgraded to Cat-M1
PLYMOUTH, MN and HOD HASHARON, Israel – September 8, 2016 – NimbeLink and Altair jointly announced today the availability of the new NimbeLink Skywire LTE Cat-1-embedded cellular modem, utilizing the Altair ALT1160 chipset. The new Skywire modem can be deployed today on the AT&T cellular network and converted, with a firmware upgrade, to support LTE Cat-M1 service when that service becomes available on the AT&T network.
This flexible modem design, made possible by the upgradability of the Altair ALT1160, eliminates the need to choose between speed to market and waiting for the availability of Cat-M1 network capabilities. The upgradable Skywire modem will let cellular IoT solution developers bring products to market immediately, accessing Cat-1 now and upgrading the modems when M1 service becomes available, saving both money and design time.
“Our customers count on us for easy and affordable access to the latest low power cellular IoT technologies,” said Scott Schwalbe, co-founder and CEO of NimbeLink. “As the cellular IoT industry enters a new and exciting phase of rapid innovation, we are committed to remaining on the leading edge – for our customers.”
The new modem will be fully approved and certified for immediate deployment on AT&T’s cellular network and delivers the lowest-power, lowest-cost LTE technology available today. As a Cat-M1 device, the upgraded modem will require just one antenna instead of two and will draw even less power than it does operating in Cat-1 mode.
“We are excited to partner with NimbeLink to accelerate availability of M1 technology for thousands of cellular IoT product developers,” says Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Altair Semiconductor.. “NimbeLink’s strategy of delivering carrier-certified embedded solutions to OEMs addresses a large unmet need in the marketplace.”
These modems are the only upgradable embedded modems available and, like all members of the Skywire embedded modem family, are the smallest cellular modems in the industry. They share the Skywire’s patented form factorand are supported with full documentation, development kits, and microprocessor capes and adapters.
Created by award-winning developers, NimbeLink’s cellular modems are the easiest way to speed cellular-enabled IoT and M2M products to market. Available in both embedded and external Ethernet and serial link formats, Skywire modems are the economical choice for global cellular connectivity. Upgradable Cat-1 modems can be ordered from Get Wireless, Digi-Key, Arrow, or Symmetry using part number MN-SW-LTW-WM14.
NimbeLink is the innovation leader in embedded cellular technology for today’s machine-to-machine and Internet of Things solutions. Our award-winning Skywire® modems and related software and services enable OEM customers to easily develop end-device certified IoT solutions for faster time to market.
